June 4th and 12th will be special days for folk and roots music in the border area, when the Danish-German band Drones & Bellows presents their seventh album
For almost 40 years, the band has benefited from the proximity to Tønder Festival, where they have repeatedly had the opportunity to experience the big names in the folk world and draw inspiration for their own music. “A River Runs” is a journey through well-known melodies, new interpretations, their own compositions and other musical gems.
Drones & Bellows remains true to themselves this time too, with the usual powerful fusion of musical craftsmanship, tradition and inspiration. The arrangements are characterized by their own unique style, and the band has an impressive range of instruments at its disposal, which help to create their unique sound.
With 14 tracks, listeners get a varied experience, where the roots of folk music meet the band’s characteristic sound and musical creativity.
The musical “stuff” is provided by legendary names such as Oysterband, Brian McNeill, McCalmans and Phil Cunningham, but the audience is also introduced to music by lesser-known artists such as Basque musician Inaki Malbadi. And the entire album is of course spiced up with Drones & Bellows’ own compositions and beautiful reels. – plus a live track that is not available on streaming services! Track 14 is a mandolin medley that was recorded during a concert at Andersen-Hüs in Germany in 2023
