Musikerne i RÅ har taget polskaens vemodige alvor, valsens vuggende rytmik og polketternes legende sving og har bygget en helhed, som udfordrer lytteren – alt dette med stor omsorg og respekt for den musikalske arv. Den usædvanlige besætning violin, klarinet og saxofon gør lydbilledet til et spændende indslag på den nordiske musikscene, når RÅ på fineste og mest snavsede vis fornyer folkemusikken. Med debutalbummet MASSIV skabes en alsidig fusionsplatform, hvor polketter kan møde housemusikkens groove, polskaer kan bæres af rockens snavs og harmonier, men den hjerteskærende folkemelodi kan også efterlades helt sårbar. Som en antiautoritær hyldest sætter MASSIV den mangfoldige og rige melodiarv, som den svenske folkemusik rummer, i nye sammenhænge, hvor konventioner knuses – og musikken får lov til at udvikles frit!

RÅ consists of three vibrant and innovative musicians from the Scandinavian folk and improvisation scene who playfully explore traditional Swedish folk music. RÅ has taken the beautiful melancholy of the polska, the bubbling rhythmics of the waltz and the playful swing of the polka and explored the possibilities, thus creating a musical sphere that challenges and intrigues the listener – all with great respect and love for the musical heritage. The unconventional instrumentation of violin, clarinet and saxophone gives RÅ a unique sound that opens up for originality and innovation within the tradition.
With their debut album MASSIV, RÅ has created a new way of exploring traditional music. The MASSIV universe is a place where a polka can meet the groove of house music, a schottis can be smothered in the harmonies and riffs of hard rock, a polska can flirt with freeform jazz, and a beautiful melody can be presented just as is – simple, naked and vulnerable. MASSIV is an album that widens the horizon of Swedish traditional folk music where norms and expectations are disregarded, giving the musical material space to expand and transform freely.
